The current speech and language therapy service based at Freddies is made up of two part-time speech and language therapists and a part-time speech and language therapy assistant employed by Humber NHS Foundation Trust (www.humber.nhs.uk) and a part time curriculum support officer employed by school.
We are based in an office in school and support pupils with physical disabilities in schools across Hull and the East Riding.
We work with children and young people who have difficulties with developing language and communication skills, and also those who have eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties.
We have an open referral system for children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties, accepting referrals from parents and other professionals (with parental consent). The exception to this is referrals for eating and drinking assessments which must come from the individual’s GP or consultant.
Our role is to assess, diagnose and recommend interventions and strategies to help develop communication skills. This might be through direct individual or group work or through suggestions to classroom staff and parents/carers.
We also offer training for parents/ carers and other professionals working to support the child.
We can be contacted on 01482 458808.
